A General Manager/Business Adviser with considerable experience and expertise in the organisation and management of public services, with an in depth understanding of the socio-economic, political and professional environments within which these operate. A background in Health, Social care and Education provision, including working at Committee and Board level, with skills in strategic planning, operational staff and resource management and the inspection and regulation of services. Skilled in strategic thinking, with the ability to plan ahead and through the use of qualitative and quantitive data able to balance needs and constraints based on evidence presented and sound judgement.

Experienced in multi-agency team working and multi-disciplinary Project planning with expertise in performance and resource management, the implementation of imposed and designed change, contract and purchasing, risk analysis, risk management and avoidance. Substantial experience in the inspection and review of corporate governance systems, processes and practices in the National Health Service, with considerable expertise and a high level of commitment to patients, carers and the community, especially disadvantaged groups. Particular knowledge about the health needs of young offenders and young people involved with the Criminal Justice System.

Is comfortable with accepting responsibility for own actions and, when probing and challenging constructively, issues concerned with the accountability of others. Is motivated to improve NHS performance and confident to take on the challenges required to develop services which reflect the needs of the North Somerset community. Professional training in social work, with good interpersonal skills in consultation and communication with a wide and diverse range of individuals and groups, including disaffected children and young people, parents, offenders, partner agencies and staff and staff side representatives, with a keen interest in equal opportunities and diversity. Able to influence and persuade others whilst dealing with their concerns sympathetically and fairly.
